Introduction, Section 4.2
Examining section 4.2 this week. Here’s where Langan admits to an influence from Intelligent Design, citing Complexity Theory and Intelligent Design as two of the most interesting developments in thought at the point of writing the CTMU. The I.D. Group generally is not taken seriously by the scientific and mathematical communities. Nonetheless here we see how material vs informational reductionism directly mirrors mind-matter dualism. Any theory which explains Reality sufficiently - even if there are unanswered questions - must address both mind and matter, information and material, information and computation. From here Langan moves to use language as the paradigm itself. Not that we use language to describe Reality but rather declare that Reality is a language, and study accordingly.
